- A lot has changed since my first article, How to Find the Perfect Realestate Agent For Sale/Lease Back in 2016.
Real estate agents are still essential partners with buyers who are searching for homes to buy and sellers who wish to sell theirs.
But they're no longer just another vendor on top of the stack — they can be an invaluable business partner who will help maximize both buyer satisfaction and seller outcomes during each step of the transaction.
What does this mean for buyers? Well, it means finding a great agent should become even easier than ever. And while the job hasn't gotten easier yet, I'm confident things will get better in the years ahead.
For sellers... well, let me tell ya why things haven't gotten easier already. But if they can work together like a dream team, then the possibilities for them are boundless.
So today, I'm sharing some tips to keep in mind as you search through listings online or meet potential vendors in person. They'll help ensure you find the perfect match in your area or help you avoid getting swindled by someone else's shady practices.
First, though, you've got to pick a good agent, which isn't always easy because sometimes there aren't many people around. So let these seven steps guide you:
1. Be sure to research their reputation — especially among current clients. Ask family members, coworkers, neighbors... anyone whose opinion matters. If an individual has bad reviews or ratings, take that information seriously—and move on.
2. Keep in mind that every region has different market dynamics. Your local economy could play differently depending on whether you live in the Bay Area, Orange County, San Diego, Sacramento, Fresno or elsewhere.
3. Check their website; see if they offer anything other than pure commission payments.
