- Update: Texas's Real Estate Market in 2022
- As I mentioned earlier this week, my wife and I are moving back to Tucson in August of 2020 after living in San Francisco since 2014. We will be relocating to another part of town but will still be able to walk to most places, including work. My current house is only 3 blocks away from my place of employment, and it won't take me longer than 15 minutes by car to get to work. We'll be staying in a neighborhood near Pinnacle Peak Park that was recently built. There isn't much traffic because it sits along the foothills of a mountain range. We're planning a quick move-out sale. Our asking price is $1 million which will net us around $700k.
This move will allow us to save some cash in taxes while living closer to family members who live in California. If you've moved before, you already know what a nightmare it can be, especially during tax season. It's going to be different for our situation, though.
We are currently working with a local Realtor to sell our old home in SF and find a new home in Tucson. She knows her business well, has excellent customer service and is honest. She told me she'd like to see my old house sold first, then she'd help us find something else. The problem with that is the houses in the area aren't exactly "discoverable." They are hidden behind gates or gated communities which makes them less accessible to potential buyers.
If my agent finds a buyer within 30 days, we will pay them 10% of the sales price, plus 3 months rent. This way they can hold onto our property until they find someone willing to purchase it at full price. If no offer is received within 90 days, the contract ends and the seller receives the deposit minus 5%.
I'm looking forward to finding a new home in Tucson because I love being close to nature, hiking trails, parks, restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores, gyms and other amenities. The weather is gorgeous almost every day of the year, and I enjoy spending my evenings outside watching the stars. Plus, I'm hoping to meet some people from the community I'll be settling into, which would definitely enhance my quality of life.
My agent said she could probably find a similar home within 3 miles of my location for under $800K (and a lot fewer bedrooms).
